We Desire to Grow in the Gospel Together
Before He ascended to the Father, Jesus commissioned his followers to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you”. Forty days later, Jesus sent His Spirit to His followers, empowering them for a two-fold purpose: to unite them in mission and build them up in maturity.
Here at COAH, we seek to create environments for community, learning, and equipping. We hope that every member would grow up together towards maturity in Christ, using their gifts to build up the body and seek the world’s good for God’s glory.
So how does that work at here? Small groups are one of our means of discipleship, creating smaller families within our larger church family. However, we don’t expect these groups to meet all the discipleship needs of our members. We designed our Core Classes to come alongside our small groups to deepen our church family’s faith and prepare us for ministry work. Through these pathways, COAH seeks to cultivate a community of Christ followers who live, know, declare, and celebrate God and His Gospel.
In 1 Corinthians 12:12, Paul reminds us that God designed us to be as interdependent as the limbs of a body. Our personal growth and maturity are linked to the growth and maturity of our brothers and sisters. We cannot fully carry our burdens or grow in godliness alone.
Your participation in church isn’t just for you. Others will be encouraged by hearing the Gospel from your lips. There are hands you have been called to hold and tears that are meant to fall on your shoulder. As interdependent members of the family of God, we have been given to others as a part of a supernatural family - not united by common age, life stage, or interest but by our shared allegiance to Christ.
Our small groups cultivate this vision within our church. Once a week, COAH members gather in homes, our church building, or throughout our city engaging in teaching, hospitality, conversation, care, and confession. We pray that through small groups, every member of COAH will be truly known, loved, and empowered to live as a member of the family of God.
It is nearly impossible to overstate the importance of community in a believer’s life. However, while community is indispensable to discipleship, community alone does not constitute discipleship. Because of this, COAH desires that every member participates in Core Classes. Through these opportunities, we hope our church would grasp the wondrous story of God’s salvation, be equipped to know and follow Jesus, and engage the world as His ambassadors.
We designed each class to be active, where participants complete some work on their own, pour over God’s Word together, and engage in group discussions. Although requirements differ from class to class, we have aimed to make each Core Class accessible to nonbelievers, new believers, and growing believers alike.
Lastly, we also offer other discipleship opportunities outside of Core Classes. These range from regularly occurring classes (Parenting, Marriage, Stewardship, etc.), Bible studies, and small group opportunities to our CityMen and CityWomen’s Ministries. Our men and women's ministries exist to establish healthy and biblical friendship, mentorship, and apprenticeship opportunities between believers through our Bible studies, small groups, and other events.
